| If you would like to learn about avalanche safety and safe backcountry travel techniques taking an avalanche skills training course from experienced avalanche professionals is the best way to do so. Our instructors have a minimum of four years instructing avalanche courses and have worked as professionals in the avalanche industry.
Our recreational avalanche courses are based out of Kicking Horse Resort. We explore the terrain inside and outside the boundaries to further our understanding of avalanches and travel in avalanche terrain. This course focuses on avalanche self rescue, recognizing avalanche terrain, safe backcountry travel techniques, interpreting the Canadian Avalanche Association avalanche bulletin, and trip planning.
All participants are required to have an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel for the duration of the course. Rentals are available directly from Canadian Powder Adventures. As well participants are required to have either snowshoes or a ski touring set-up for one of the days.
Our recreational avalanche courses have a curriculum which has been developed by the Canadian Avalanche Association. Course costs include a course manual and certificate. This course is a prerequisite for all those wishing to gain further training in the avalanche industry. The maximum instructor to student ratio is 1 to 6.
The cost is FREE if you bring along at least 4 paying friends otherwise it is $165.00 per person. Courses are available anytime with a minimum of 4 participants or join one of our scheduled courses:
